Get ready to make a statement! A 14” necklace is a tightly worn choker which fits around the neck. This type looks great with an open shirt or an off-the- shoulder number.
You might find this option slightly more versatile. Not the sizing you’d normally associate with a choker because it actually sits at the base of the neck and can be worn with most necklines. It’s the perfect base for any layered necklace look.
This is the classic necklace length normally paired with a pendent. It rests on the collarbone and is suited to almost any neckline. If you’re looking for a day to day necklace length, this would be your go-to option.
If you’re looking for a necklace to pull a simple outfit together, try the 24” necklace length which falls on or below the bust. If you’re on the tall side or have a heavier bust, this length will have the same effect as the Princess necklace. If you’re of an average height or build, this length is the longest component of your long layered necklace look.
This length falls well below the bust. It is best worn with a long hanging pendant over formal dress such as a long-line black evening dress. This can also look super chic styled over a double-breasted blazer. If you’re 5ft 2” or under, be careful with this one as it can drown you.

]]>But does silver really work with your skin tone? Should you stick to gold? What about rose gold?
To help you work out which metal works best against which skin tone and colouring, I've put together this guide.
There are three main skin tones – warm, neutral and cool. One of the easiest ways is by observing the veins on your wrist.
If they look either blue or purple, you probably have a cool tone while greenish veins means you have a warm skin tone. If you cannot determine if they are green or blue, then you probably have a neutral skin tone. Just remember to check under natural light.
Silver, platinum, white gold and pearls are a great choice for this skin tone- you will look so fresh on very pale skin, especially if you also have pale or blonde hair. Check out our Silver Edit for some great statement earrings, necklaces and a chunky charm bracelet you'll love!
Rose gold will most likely accentuate the pink undertone in your skin, so go by how much pink or redness you show.
Contrary to what many fair skinned people think, if you have pale undertones you can wear gold!
Opt for 9kt or 14kt gold and your skin won’t appear pasty or sallow. 18kt gold has a much warmer yellow tone to it and this can make this tone look washed out, so try to avoid it. Silver will also be great on very pale skin tones.
Our Paloma Gold Huggie Earrings are a wonderfully delicate option here.
Silver tends to be a popular choice for you ladies because it goes so well with your cool, bluer undertones. However don't be afraid to experiment with gold jewellery- it brings out the rich tones in your hair especially in medium to darker toned redheads. Aim for a warmer toned gold somewhere around 14k to 18k. Rose gold works for you too. The copper/cool pink tone can really work on you.
Because you ladies have a neutral undertone, you can pretty much wear any metal and jewel tone. You lucky things!
So go ahead and have fun with lots of different colours and styles. Why not try mixing metals? Usually pairing two colours together can work well and look coherent.
Once again, either gold, rose gold or silver can look fantastic on you, but some delicate silver jewellery can look a bit lost on darker skin. Gold will look really striking on you too.
Similar to your lightly tanned sisters, most metal and jewel tones look great on our skin. Rose gold brings a softness to your skin tone, while classic 18kt or even 22kt gold will look fantastic. Silver, platinum and white gold offer a slightly more pared back look so you can layer lots of pieces without looking blingy. You can pretty much ride most jewellery trends so really it comes down to personal choice.
It's easy to assume that you are naturally warm toned because of your yellower skin tone. Do the vein check outlined above. If you're warm toned then play around with yellow toned gold- the full spectrum for 9k- 24k should work. It just comes down to your preference and your budget of course!
Cool toned ladies here, you're not precluded from wearing gold. 9k & 14k yellow gold could work well for you as they are not quite as warm toned. Other than that, the cool tones of silver and rose gold should sit very naturally against your complexion.
And that brings me to my final point. In the end, the only rule that really governs jewellery choice is “how much do I love it?” It doesn’t matter whether it’s Instagramable or trendy, if you love it, then go for it. Usually we each have great instincts as to what works with our particular colouring, so always let that be your guide.
From layering and stacking jewellery to helping you find the focal point in your outfit with one styling tip; our guide this month will up your jewellery game this Christmas.
Create layers and stacks
The reason that stacking and layering jewellery works is because it’s interesting. You’re creating a look that no one else can, using your choice of jewellery pieces.
Play around with contrasting necklace lengths. Start with a base piece like a short pendant necklace or a chain and then add in longer pendant necklaces or chains. You can match this look to your neckline. Think: round or v-neck top?
The key to a good arm stack is to vary up the styles so they don’t all sit on top of each other. Use a combination of bangles, charm bracelets and chain bracelets.
Ear stacking is a real trend amongst millennials at the moment. If you don’t have multiple piercings, why not mimic this look by wearing huggie earrings and adding in an ear cuff? Or try one of our ear climbers which only require one piercing!
Know when to stop
Coco Chanel famously said: “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take off one accessory.”
This rule will stop your overall look being too cluttered. If you’re layering lots of necklaces perhaps reconsider the stack of bracelets. Likewise, bold statement earrings never need further embellishment, so maybe combine them with an understated pendant necklace or elegant chain.
What’s the focus: jewellery or clothing?
It's easy to throw everything at Christmas styling- after all it's the season of glitz and glam right? But having a focal point makes your look all the more put together.
You can elevate a really simple look by adding in statement jewellery. Jeans and a top go from pretty to ordinary to stylish just by adding a statement necklace.
If you’re wearing a bold print dress or top you won’t want it to compete for attention with heavy jewellery, so keep your accessories simple.
So just choose: statement outfit or statement jewellery?
Experiment with mixing metals
Controversial I know. Mixing metals has become much more popular and can look really stylish and unique. The way to make it work is to combine metal and stone colours that compliment each other rather than compete. Try two metal tones together such as silver and gold, or rose gold and silver.
Always do you!
We’re all influenced by fashion trends to some extent and that’s ok. But never let them boss you around! Pick and choose fashion trends and styling tips that work for your individual style and budget. Work out what makes you feel confident and the most like ‘you’ and you’ll always wear it with style.
]]>It’s so easy to pick up a piece of jewellery in a supermarket or large retail chain that comes on a pretty backing card or hanger but has no labelling at all.
Is it hypoallergenic? Which means, will the metal react with your skin?
Is it lead compliant? Nickel, lead and cadmium are elements that make jewellery pieces appear heavier or brighter for example. However, metals exposed to the skin for long periods of time must only release nickel at a specific rate, and likewise lead and cadmium are also subject to restrictions. These substances are covered by legislation, so you deserve to know what you’re putting on your body!
All of our jewellery comes with a card that tells you what metal it’s made from, and all of our pieces are hypoallergenic and lead compliant. Demand no less from your jewellery!
Ok, so lots of us are guilty of this one.
Whilst precious metals such as sterling silver and solid gold certainly won’t (shouldn’t) lose their plating from continued use, they will build up a layer of grime. Just consider how much you sweat in a day, not to mention the layers of deodorant, moisturisers and perfume you likely put on- it all contributes to a residue over your treasured pieces.
All of this will dull the shine of your jewellery and grime build up in places you can’t see such as the stems of your earrings. Ideally, we should clean our most worn jewellery a couple of times a month with a designated jewellery cleaning cloth- I like this one.
A word on wearing your jewellery while swimming. Chlorine can actually discolour silver and some stones, while salt water can dull diamonds and even weaken the soldered joints in metal jewellery. Plus it would be devastating if your beloved jewellery slipped off you while swimming or showering!
You keep your jewellery stashed away in a cupboard or jewellery box you never look at? The problem with this is that you’ll never see the pieces you own. And that handy saying ‘out of sight out of mind’ really holds true here.
The likelihood is that you neglect to wear that lovely pair of earrings you bought online or the bracelet your best friend bought you, simply because they are stored away and you forget about them.
Opt instead for a jewellery tree or hanger of some kind, or at least a box or tray that has compartments where you can easily see individual items. Remember to glance over them when you get dressed and match interesting pieces to your outfit of the day.
We have a whole article on how to style statement jewellery. But as we’re talking mistakes here…
It can be helpful to consider the phrase ‘statement outfit or statement jewellery’ when getting ready, particularly for important events and nights out. In other words, are you wearing a statement outfit that is the focal point of your look, or are you wearing a pared back outfit and styling it up with accessories? A sequined dress with a bib necklace, chandelier earrings and bracelet stack could leave you bit blinded.
So have a think about which aspect of your outfit you would like as the centre piece and add in jewellery appropriately. Not a Mr T impersonator in sight….
In this age of fast fashion none of us ever consider whether we ‘need’ yet another bracelet. After all jewellery is an emotive purchase not a practical one.
But this point goes back to the idea of a jewellery capsule wardrobe, which I talked about in this article. It's important to consider how much stuff we have and therefore how much of the earth’s resources we are using- and jewellery is one of the easiest categories to amass. If you’re interested in this topic, then I suggest definitely checking out the slow fashion movement.
Other points to consider on this topic:
It's about creating balance- balancing the right necklace lengths, pendant shapes, and chains effectively.
Base Layer Necklace
Start with a 16"/40cm necklace or chain. This is the standard length of most necklaces that sit at the base of the throat and it's a great jewellery piece to have in your collection as it works really well worn alone.
Feature Pendant
Next add in a feature pendant necklace. This will be the focal point of your necklace stack. We've all got a favourite pendant we love to wear so this where you make your necklace stack really individual.
At this point you could add in another pendant to sit next to your first one or add in a longer layer to create the graduated look. Our necklace sets are great because they have three necklaces in one set that do exactly that!
However you style it, the great thing about layering necklaces is that it creates a look that is truly yours. No one else will show up to the party with the same jewellery look that's for sure!
Our handy guide breaks down all the different face shapes and matches each one to the perfect earring style.
Most people fall into one of these face shapes- though rarely ever the exact shape, you can identify some key characteristics. The trick when choosing earrings is to wear shapes that are the opposite to your main facial features.
Round face
If the length and width of your face are broadly the same and your hairline and jawline are subtly rounded then you have a round face.
Long drop earrings will work best for you as they create the illusion of length and offset the width of the face.
If you have a strong jawline and a hairline that goes straight across your forehead then you’re probably a square or rectangle face shape. A simple hoop earring style can work really well to soften the angles of your face.
We have several styles of hoop earrings in our collection, so it’s really down to personal choice and what occasion you’re dressing for. Our Paloma Huggie Earrings are gorgeously detailed and subtle while our Knot Hoop Earrings and Bamboo Hoop Earrings are bolder. If you want a real statement hoop, then go for our Kora Double Hoop Earring, one of our best sellers.
Oval face
If your face is longer than it is wide (with the cheeks as the widest part), then you have an oval face. Most styles will suit you well, but to balance out the length of your face, try opting for a round earrings such as our Leona Dangly Pearl Hoop Earrings. The hoop offsets the width in your cheek bones while the dangly pearl drop elongates your face. Or try one of our ear climber earrings- these draw the eye upwards and accentuate your cheekbones.
Heart/inverted triangle
Think Reese Witherspoon for this face shape- she’s a classic heart shape. This is when your forehead is wider than your jawline and your face tapers down to a narrow point giving you are a heart or inverted triangle shape.
Here you want to draw attention to the middle portion of your face to offset the longer chin. Small to midi size earrings will work perfectly on you, such as our Midi Knot Hoop Earrings. Our Drop Spike Earrings and Gold Chain Link Earrings are also perfectly proportioned here.
But what if you’re someone who loves silver jewellery? How do you accessorise with cool toned metals in a season of warm colours?
This month we’re going to break down Autumn jewellery styling for both warm and cool tones so you make an effortless seasonal wardrobe switch!
]]>But what if you’re someone who loves silver jewellery? How do you accessorise with cool toned metals in a season of warm colours?
This month we’re going to break down Autumn jewellery styling for both warm and cool tones so you make an effortless seasonal wardrobe switch!
Colour styling basically comes down to the blue base/ yellow base colour system.
Naturally, whatever your skin tone, hair and eye colour, we all fall into one of these two undertones, blue or yellow.
Take a look at the colours below and notice which row you are drawn to most. There may be colours you like and dislike from each row so make sure to look at one row at a time.
The yellow base colours are basically warmer tones that are best suited to gold and rose gold. If on the other hand you’re drawn to the blue base row, you’re a silver jewellery gal.
So here is a basic colour palette of cool toned colours, all with a blue undertone. For an Autumnal wardrobe, think grey, blue, black, green and purple/violet
Your favourite silver jewellery will go great with any of these colours.
But if you’re wondering how to create that really warm autumnal look without making your silver jewellery look washed out, burgundy is your bonus Autumn colour here!
Also associated with the colour of red wine- think claret or Bordeaux, burgundy is not to be confused with maroon which has red undertones. Think of the rich brown tone of a conker; maroon is just a step away.
So go to town with burgundy if you want a warmer feel. Just think: black pleather leggings with a fitted, rich burgundy roll neck. This would work great with a piece like our large silver Authentic Hoops or our chunky Silver Callie Charm Bracelet laid over the sleeve. Or how about our Silver Leona Dangly Pearl Hoop Earrings? The pearl adds an extra depth to your look!
This is really your season for styling and accessorising so have fun with it. Chances are you already love all the mustard yellows, burnt oranges, warm beiges and khaki greens that dominate fashion this time of year.
Because these colours are somewhat on the muted side (as opposed to a vibrant red for example) try experimenting with bolder gold statement pieces like our Gold Chain Link Earrings or layer our Terese Figaro Chain with the Marissa Sunburst Pendant Necklace for a statement neck wear look.
Shop the look: Marissa Sunburst Necklace, Leona Pearl Drop Earrings
My bonus tip to you is to try adding in other warm toned metals or stones. Freshwater pearls which have a natural warmth to them are perfect such as our Baroque Pearl Pendant Necklace. And of course don’t forget that other warmed toned metal, rose gold, perfect against an oatmeal or chocolate brown tone.

Avoid Bold Colourful Jewellery
You’re not looking to attract attention as a wedding guest. The bride and groom- well let’s face it, the bride, is the main event. So with that in mind, avoid oversized, very bold jewellery. Opt instead for pieces that elevate and match your outfit as opposed to make you stand out in the crowd. A few layered necklaces are great for a day to night wedding. You can play around with some delicate chains and add in a statement pendant such as our Marissa Sunburst Pendant Necklace.
Pearls are Always Suitable
Gone are the days when a set of pearls are the domain of the lady’s village sewing circle. There are some gorgeous fashion pearl jewellery options available now, and they are perfect for a summer wedding- they’re always look so sophisticated. Even if it’s a less traditional wedding, pearls are the perfect wedding guest jewellery option, especially if you’re a little unsure on what to wear. Our Leona Pearl Earring range are the right amount of understated glamour in this situation
Diamonds Aren’t Always A Girls’ Best Friend
Diamonds are a real show piece. Many people are tempted to wear diamond jewellery as wedding guests- when else can you wear them but for such a big occasion? Bear in mind though that diamonds are traditionally reserved for the bride at weddings so leave yours at home. Yes you can wear your wedding or engagement rings though, we’re talking diamond necklaces, earrings and bracelets here.
Follow Coco Chanel’s Example
With all that said, you are still hoping to look nice- you’ll most likely be in some of the photography and it’s a party (sort of) after all. So do add in a full set of jewellery- earrings, necklace, bracelets and your rings. Just let understated glam be your guide. And if in doubt, follow the Coco Chanel rule of dressing “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory”. Well if Chanel said it…
]]>Simple but chic, a classic pair of huggie hoop earrings will serve you well. Add them as a finishing touch to a statement necklace stack or chain jewellery to complete your jewellery look or wear them alone with your loungewear
If in doubt, always add hoop earrings! Big or small (but really the bigger the better in my humble opinion) they really will go with any outfit.
Chain jewellery is a jewellery trend that won't date. Wear them together for a complete look or add in one piece to instantly update and elevate your whole look.
So there you have it. Never forget that jewellery is the finishing touch to your look- whether you’re out for the evening or popping to the shops. And these classic items will ensure that you always look well dressed.
We’ve been scouring fashion sources to bring you a round up of all the essential statement earring styles.
1. Double Hoops
Hoops are an essential style in any season, but this year we’re seeing an updated take on the classic silhouette in the form of the double hoop. May we offer you one better, our Triple Hoop Earrings?!
2. Next Level Hoops
Then there’s the over sized and statement hoop! Because why go big when you can go bigger?
3. Novelty Shapes
As we’re finally stepping out of loungewear and looking to dress up again, we’re seeing that our customers are looking to have fun again with their jewellery. From our Chain Link Statement Earrings to our Champagne Star Earrings and Rainbow Star Earrings, novelty earring shapes are fun and reflect a joyful mood.
4. Sparkly
Another way to have fun is to add some sparkle with your jewellery, even if you go minimal with it, as with our Lara Safety Pin Earrings. They’re subtle enough to add them to jeans and a t-shirt, sparkly to get asked “wow, where did you get your earrings from, I love them?!”
Here are 3 simple outfit ideas complete with the jewellery you need to add. You'll be ready for the ball in no time!
...is usually your earrings- they frame the face and complete your look.
OUTFIT IDEA: Opt for a simple silk cami that can be tucked into smart jeans or black trousers. You can throw a blazer over this look- the high street is currently heaving with lots of lovely blazers for every budget.
JEWELLERY LOOK: What takes this look from zero to 100 is the earrings you add. Shop our statement earrings to play with colours, shapes, structure and different metal tones. Their glamour offsets the simplicity of your outfit.
Your hand is going to be slightly raised all evening, holding a wine glass. So create a gorgeous bracelet stack and flash that arm candy!
OUTFIT IDEA: The midi skirt trend is so fab because it's so versatile. You can do it one of two ways for an evening out. Pair a tulle skirt (there are some great ones on ASOS at the moment) with a printed tee- so glam on the bottom, relaxed at the top. Conversely, you could pair a pleated midi skirt with a sparkly top. Push the sleeves up to your elbow- don't worry, this IS a thing, it's not just for Miami Vice. Now add in your playful bracelet stack.
JEWELLERY LOOK: Mix metals, shapes and motifs for a really unique look that no one else will have!
You cannot be more on-trend right now than with layered necklaces.
OUTFIT IDEA: I would suggest a V or scooped neck for maximum impact here, but really, it looks just as effective over a gorgeous crew neck top or peaking out of a silk shirt collar- that's how versatile a look this is!
JEWELLERY LOOK: We have a longer blog post on how to layer necklaces. But as a quick tip: Start with a longer length necklace of around 55/60cm in length, that holds a unique pendant. Then add in your favourite 40/45cm length necklace with pendant. As with a bracelet stack, what makes this look interesting and unique to you is the different pendants you add in- they become real talking points!
So get out there and sparkle this party season. Mix up your accessories and create some looks that are fabulous and unique!

This is a good place to start if you are feeling unsure. Choose one piece as the focal point of your accessories. An interesting necklace or a stack of bracelets? How about statement earrings?
Once you've got your jewellery in mind you can coordinate your outfit colour, sleeve lengths and necklines (more about this later) accordingly.
Remember that wherever you place your statement jewellery is where the eye will be drawn to. So if you’ve just had your hair done, go for some great statement earrings!
A sleeveless outfit works beautifully with stacking bracelets. Scooped necklines, off-the-shoulder, v-neck or strapless work best for an interesting necklace set like our Thea Triple Layer Pendant & Necklace Set.
You can also lay this necklace or any of our chunky chain necklaces over a crew neck, particularly if you’re wearing a neutral or block colour on your top half.
Larger earrings are the first thing people notice when they approach you. So if earrings are your statement jewellery item then why not consider keeping your hairstyle quite simple?
Alternatively an up-do will draw all the attention to your face and subsequently those ear lobes. If you're not in the mood for something oversized, why not go for some understated glam, in the form of ear climbers?
Statement chain necklaces or dainty layered pendants? Both are equally on-trend right now. And a great necklace look will instantly update your outfit.
Chain jewellery is not just a trend at the moment, it is going to become a jewellery staple. In fact the chain detail is also spilling over into bags and shoes, that’s how important it’s become. So invest in a great quality chain necklace- we've just launched a whole range of statement chain necklaces.
Layered necklaces are a super simple and versatile jewellery look. It's also totally unique- no one else will create your combination.
Combine different shapes like adding your favourite pendant to a long-line necklace that sits below the bust. Or layer two of your favourite pendants together- just make sure one sits slightly lower than the other.
There are so many options for dressing bare arms.
Mix together a stack of interesting bracelets. Or be adventurous and mix bangle bracelets with charm bracelets.
Add in a couple of charm bracelets with some bangle bracelets for a really interesting boho look. (Our Sentiment Bracelets are a good base for this look). There are also some really lovely cuffs (like our Athena Cuff Bracelet) which work beautifully as one statement piece on it's own.
Keep arm jewellery bold and interesting, and it will still make a statement which cannot be missed.
Samantha Jones in Sex and the City was never without a cocktail ring. Statement rings and rings on multiple fingers is coming back in trend in a big way.
Do remember to get a manicure or even just tidy up your nails if you’re short for time. While a neutral coloured polish would undoubtedly work the best with a colourful cocktail ring, there’s no reason why brightly coloured nails wouldn’t also look great- just make sure not to clash colours.
You’ll never fail with this rule as your statement jewellery will be able to shine. And if you need any more convincing of this, bear in mind the words of Coco Chanel. She famously said: "Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove the one accessory."
So go create some drama with your statement jewellery. And have fun!
Here’s a quick cheat sheet on how to use your jewellery to spruce up your look and which jewellery items to wear.
Always Add Earrings
There’s something about a great pair of earrings that just finish off any outfit, as well as add a little sparkle and polish. With the huge popularity of selfies, earrings have become a staple- your earrings are the most noticeable part of your look in any photo. And a GREAT pair of earrings- well that’ll bring your whole look together and the make the photo pop.
If you’re feeling bold, go statement and unusual- our Champagne Star Earrings and Rainbow Star Earrings are a great option here. Or a midi sized earring like our Drop Spike Earrings add a peak of glam and edginess. And if you just want a little delicate finishing touch, go for our Paloma Huggie Earrings.
Dress Your Decolletage
Now I love a cosy rollneck jumper as much as anyone. But isn’t so lovely to be able to bear a little skin – even in the cooler temperatures of the British Springtime?! If you’ve got a chunky knit cardi over a scoop neck top, so much the better- and get those pretty necklaces out and layer them up! We have a whole blog post on how to layer necklaces and the how to choose necklace lengths.
In the meantime, why not check out our NEW Thea Triple Layer Necklace Set? It’s three individual necklaces and takes all the work out of layering.
The Power of a Statement Necklace
A statement necklace is a quick way to add some ‘pow’ and glam to your look. Pop on one of our statement chain necklaces to instantly elevate any look- even a sweatshirt.
Try a different metal colour
Contrary to popular opinion, you CAN mix metals and you might just be able to wear a metal tone you hadn’t considered. So many people stick to silver because it’s a ‘safe’ metal colour that generally looks good on anyone. But did you know that if you have pale undertones you can wear gold?
Opt for 9kt or 14kt gold and your skin won’t appear pasty or sallow, and avoid 18kt gold which has a much warmer yellow tone to it and this can make this tone look washed out. Check out our blog post "How to choose Jewellery that suits your Skintone" for our comprehensive guide.
Grab your Hoop Earrings
And lastly, if in doubt just grab some hoop earrings and you're always good to go. The bigger the better but midi, delicate and huggie earrings work well too. Hoop earrings are an absolute classic and look great on everyone- proper instant glam!
Remember that the right piece of well placed jewellery can transform any outfit!
From that new jewellery staple the statement chain necklace, to some tips and tricks on how to layer your necklaces (without them getting tangled) here's our guide on How To Wear Statement Necklaces.
]]>With the impending opening-up after lockdown and Spring weather around the corner there’s the chance to do more with our outfits and jewellery. That combined with some exciting new trends in necklaces, it’s time to think new jewellery, new look.
If you’re a follower of ours, you’ll know that we launched a whole new jewellery category to our collection this year, the Statement Chain.
Chain jewellery is not just a trend, it is going to become a jewellery staple. In fact the chain detail is also spilling over into bags and shoes, that’s how important it’s become.
So, invest in some great quality chain necklaces. Decide how chunky you want to go. We’ve got some great options from the bold Brooke Statement Chain to our pendant chain necklaces. Our Adina Necklace is a really unusual take on the classic chain too.
Wear them over a jumper, underneath a white collared shirt or against your skin- you won’t go wrong.
Layering necklaces is a look that’s been around for some time. It’s super versatile- you can create looks with any necklace you own.
Combine different shapes like adding your favourite pendant to a long-line necklace that sits below the bust. Or layer two of your favourite pendants together- just make sure one sits slightly lower than the other. Sticking to one metal colour tends to make the whole look cohesive rather than odd and mismatched. Or how about adding a simple chain like our Terese Figaro Necklace with a statement pendant like our Marissa Sunburst Pendant Necklace?

Almost a year on though, the Groundhog Day references are becoming all too real. So if you’re someone who’s stopped brushing their teeth sometimes, only washing your hair when it’s ready to fry chips in and never ever putting on makeup or jewellery; I’m here to tell you (along with the experts) that there are known mental health benefits to making an effort with your appearance.
Get Dressed- but Go One Step Further
Combine a nice top or smart sweatshirt with some joggers or leggings, ie, comfy on the bottom, smart(ish) on the top. But the finishing touch is to add in one accessory- just one. It elevates your overall look and tells your brain you’re ready for the day.
Reminder Jewellery
No end in sight to school closures, countless new Covid variants, the passing of Captain Sir Tom Moore. The news ain’t good is it? So if you find yourself stuck in a bad news vortex, try using a piece of reminder jewellery to bring yourself back to the present.
This could be a charm bracelet or pendant necklace. Touch the charm a remind yourself to stop, breathe and take your focus away from negative thinking. You could go one step further by mentally naming three things you’re grateful for.
Treat Video Calls like a Social Event
Because for now, video is our social life. It may seem silly putting on makeup to sit in front of the computer, but the little touches are visible on camera.
Wintry Walks
As we’re leaving the house so rarely now, why not add in some accessories when you do go out? A large hoop earring, a statement pendant, don’t forget them! These larger statement jewellery pieces are visible from under a hat or an open jacket.

With so much emphasis on hand washing in the midst of the current Coronavirus crisis, how can we best keep our jewellery clean? Many of us wear wedding rings or multiple fashion rings, watches and bracelets which can pick up germs. Public Health England have said Coronavirus can live on hard surfaces for around 72 hours.
So what’s the best approach?
Dr Aragona Giuseppe, GP and medical advisor at Prescription Doctor goes as far as to say "I would advise at this time to abandon all jewellery as it could be at risk of causing infection.”
But is that realistic? Should we abandon our treasured pieces for fear of catching the virus, ie, another thing we love that must be taken away?
Personally I love this approach that Dr Derek Watson, associate professor in cultural management at the University of Sunderland proposes: “It's all about regulating our behaviour and making cleaning jewellery part of our routine.”
We know the current situation isn’t going away anytime soon, so we need to balance our approach to hygiene with “the psychological effect of wearing jewellery and the importance of the feel-good factor right now”.
Well I’m all for that feel-good factor right now!
So here are our best practice tips on how to keep your jewellery clean during the Covid19 pandemic:

]]>Well, we need the feel-good factor in abundance don’t we? So whether you’re FaceTiming your parents, doing vino night with the girls on Houseparty or your weekly team meeting via Zoom, our jewellery tips will have you looking- and feeling- your best.
1. Statement EarringsCan’t be bothered to put on a smart top for your weekly team catch up? Just add in some fabulous statement earrings. They will instantly elevate and polish your look.
2. Dainty Necklaces
A delicate beautiful necklace always makes you look a bit more put together even with the most casual of lounge wear. A lovely chain layered over a plain t-shirt or jumper can look so elegant.
Or if you want to look really on trend for your Houseparty girls night, why not create a layered look by stacking a couple of simple necklaces together?
3. Reminder JewelleryIt’s hard to avoid the conversations around the Coronavirus isn’t it? Those conversations coupled with all the news content can alter your mood drastically. Bring yourself back into the moment with a little reminder. And if it’s a pretty reminder, that’s even better.
Touch on the charm on our charm bracelets and remind yourself to breathe. Or if you want an inspirational mantra to focus on, you can use our Sentiment Bracelets and remind yourself that there is still beauty in the world.
4. Understated GlamYour Friday night Prosecco meet up with the girls deserves something a little bit special- you’ve made it through the week! This is one of those Zoom calls that you will make an effort for!
Add in some tinted lip balm and our Ear Climbers as the finishing touch. They are pure understated glam, and everyone will be asking you where you got them from!
Bonus tip:
Stud Earrings
This is a jewellery basic I swear by. I believe every jewellery collection should contain a pair of high quality, stunning minimal studs. They look beautiful, they are versatile and make you look a bit more put together whatever the occasion.
Add them to a statement necklace to keep the focus on your neckline, use them to sparkle up jeans and a t-shirt, or pop them on when you just want to look a bit polished without making a lot of effort.

Here are some of my jewellery styling tips and tricks to style the statement necklace trend.
“The cardigan is finally fashionable!
After going through several lost years of being the piece that kills an outfit, the cardigan can now hold its head high and be the centrepiece to make the outfit! Think of it as a piece that becomes the focal point of the look, rather than the item that lives on the back of your office chair and gets a daily outing when the aircon gets cranked up.
Whether you go for a chunky knit or a long line printed one, make sure it adds some pizazz to your look.
I wear this hot pink number H&M alpaca cardi with mom jeans, heels and my Rock Paper Roses Rainbow Star Earrings to add a touch of sparkle to my look.”
“Faux leather is bang on trend this season.
I love wearing my River Island pleated faux leather skirt with this pink cashmere sweater for a pop of colour. Adding in a statement necklace is a simple accessory that really elevates the whole look.
The blazer jacket I’ve added here is a classic staple for your wardrobe. I also love to wear mine with jeans, a t shirt and boots for a more casual style.”
Sarah: “The high street is full of fabulous, Seventies-inspired pieces including tiered maxi dresses, retro florals; and colour palettes so rich and indulgent it's hard to know whether to wear or eat them! Think mossy greens, burnt orange, butterscotch and rich chocolates.
My fave at the moment is this Warehouse maxi dress, I love playing with the look by adding long line boots underneath, or popping a chunky knit and a belt to give the dress a separates appearance.
I naturally err towards earrings to add the final flourish to my outfit, I love the drama a big statement pair can add to the simplest of outfits. Here I’ve teamed this dress with these olive green, resin earrings also from Warehouse.”
Jaz: “Dark floral prints are going to be so on trend this Autumn/Winter- but they are also a very versatile all-season look.
My style year round is to combine any one of my floral dresses with boots, a biker jacket or a chunky knit. It’s such an adaptable look.
This black floral dress ticks all the boxes for me. Come Spring/Summer season I’ll be wearing it with peep toe sandal boots, as seen in my photograph here.

So how can we be more environmentally friendly when it comes to our jewellery collections? After all, the metals in our jewellery are using the earth's resources.
Put together a collection of classic go-to pieces that work well when worn together. They should be versatile enough to add in statement pieces for any occasion. In other words, create a capsule collection.
While it’s really tempting to pick up a pair of fun fashion earrings at the supermarket, it's important to consider whether this is responsibly sourced jewellery and how long it’s going to be until they end up on the charity shop pile.
How often have you thrown away a piece of jewellery where the plating has come off, or worse that irritates your skin?
Always check what metal your jewellery is made of, and always ensure that it’s hypoallergenic- meaning that it’s suitable for sensitive skin. Secondly, make sure that it is lead compliant- meaning that it is free of lead, nickel and cadmium, compounds which are found in most metals.
All our jewellery is either made from sterling silver, alloy, stainless steel or brass.
Diamonds are not a girls’ best friend if someone has had to suffer in the production of them. When buying diamonds and gemstones, it's really important to consider whether you're buying responsibly sourced jewellery. There are negative consequences to the diamond industry, for example when they’ve been mined in war zones and sold to finance illegal or illicit activities.
You can check guidelines on how to buy an ethical diamond or go for lab grown stones like the ones we use. AAA zircons have all the lustre and shine of a diamond without the ethical – and financial cost.
Of course there are times when we simply do want to part with a piece of jewellery. If that’s the case, and it’s made from a solid metal like sterling silver or real gold, check with a local jeweller as to whether they can take it off your hands and recycle it. If it’s made from a quality metal, this should be an option.

Our jewellery is a curated collection of handpicked designs.
I work with suppliers and jewellery manufacturers who send me sheets of their jewellery designs. From this I pick the designs that speak to me the most and fit with our jewellery ethos: dainty and minimal fashion jewellery with room to add in statement pieces.
But how do I pick jewellery designs? What- and who- inspires me?
I pull my inspiration from a variety of sources- bloggers, magazines, street style. It's always worth keeping your eyes open! And of course I always take these ideas and put my own individual stamp on them. Here are a few key sources of my inspiration.
I use social media mainly to keep up with the shapes, styles, metals, colours and styling methods that are current. Social media is really the best place to see what’s trending.
Instagram and YouTube are my go-to platforms. A few accounts I’ve been loving this year are Samantha Maria, Tasha Green, Estee Lalonde and I Covet Thee. They all have different styles but mainly I love a combination of their edginess and minimal chic style.
Whoever your favourite fashion icon is, it's worth taking note of their style, as they are being dressed and styled by people who work at the cutting edge of fashion.
Victoria Beckham is my other style icon of late. Her style is a lot more tailored and sharp, even slightly androgynous in her menswear style tailoring. The thing I love the most about her is how she will style up a very simple chic look with one pop of colour or key accessory. This is a personal trick of mine!
I do believe everyone should have a style muse. This is not about simply copying someone else’s look straight off the page, but taking inspiration from the way an outfit is put together and the overall effect.
I’m always looking at what people are wearing when I’m out and about particularly when I’m in Central London. I find it fascinating to see what trends and key accessories people have picked up on and what styles seem to dominate. The hairband, layered necklace look and bias cut skirts are everywhere this summer! Likewise I like to spot unusual trends and accessories, again keeping an eye out for any shapes, styles, designs or metals I can incorporate into new collections.
I think it’s interesting to observe the accessories and styles you reach for when you’re strapped for time or feeling uninspired. These go-to pieces are basically your statement style. I noticed that I often reach for just one statement piece of jewellery like our Authentic Hoops or Rainbow Star Earrings that become the focal point of my look- rather than lots of stacks and layers. If my outfit is the point of interest then I’ll pair a dainty necklace like our Crystal Leaf Pendant Necklace with our Moon Drop Studs for a more pared back jewellery look.

Yellow
According to Cosmopolitan, marigold yellow is going to be everywhere this summer. The fashion magazine said “sunny yellows lit up runway shows at Carolina Herrera, Oscar De La Renta, J. JS Lee and Brandon Maxwell."
Yellow is a tricky colour to wear for many skin tones, so how about adding in a nod to this trend instead?
Head to toe beige
Everyone is talking about this trend, but let’s face it, if Vogue says it’s so, it’s happening.
Head to toe beige may sound crazy but according to Vogue editors “this is how the internationally sleek will be wearing it”.
I would suggest adding in brushed gold accessories to make the look pop a bit and feel less monotone.
Leopard Print
It was everywhere during Autumn/Winter 18, and according to fashion website Who What Wear, leopard print is not going away.
“The runways—and the statistics that go with them—(show that) fashion's best friend is still very much at your side.”
According to their source, online searches for animal print have gone up 50% since this time last year, and designers such as Burberry, Gucci and Calvin Klein are continuing the trend this year.
Strong Tailoring
In line with the strong 80s/90s vibe we’re seeing everywhere in fashion at the moment, Harpers tells us that there is “a broader tailoring trend likely to change the way we dress this season. The industry is moving (towards) a sharper silhouette.”
This is an easy one to translate to everyday wear if you’re not up for a full on suit. Simply pair a tailored jacket with ripped jeans and accessories to soften the whole look.
So whether you choose marigold yellow, or to strike a more subdued tone with full on neutrals; repeat the leopard print trend or don a tailored blazer on cooler summer days, you've got a mini summer fashion edit right here.
Just don't forget to accessorise!

This process is made easier by my jewellery capsule wardrobe, that is, a small selection of my treasured, go-to pieces that work well worn together. They are also versatile enough that I can add in statement pieces for almost any occasion.
So here are my guidelines on how to build your very own jewellery capsule wardrobe.
“I ONLY wear silver”, “I can’t wear gold, it comes up too yellow on my skin tone”. Sound familiar?
We all have a preferred metal tone, (check out my article on finding the right metal for your skin tone to colour match yours). It’s great to go with your instinct and build your collection around your metal tone of choice. This is so that you can develop a cohesive collection. It eliminates confusion when buying jewellery and it helps other people buy for you.
That being said, I’m a great fan of mixing metals occasionally. I like to put together a rose gold piece with something silver for example. I always keep this look quite minimal though.
And feel free to do the same- mixing metals is a real trend at the moment, and after all, it’s your look to curate!
Now you can build a starter collection of base pieces, made up of one item per jewellery category- so one bracelet, one necklace, and so on. Really, these pieces are your capsule collection and they eventually become the pieces you’ll reach for everyday.
And because you’ve built a cohesive collection around your choice of metal tone, wearing these items- even when you’re on the school run or grabbing a coffee, will always mean you look so put together!
For me, this is where the outfit curation really comes in. I have an outfit in mind, I have my jewellery capsule wardrobe ready. Now, which pair of statement earrings will make the whole look pop? Or, perhaps I’ll layer a couple of necklaces over my capsule pendant necklace?
I always say you should only really wear one piece of statement jewellery whatever the occasion- this avoids your look becoming cluttered. Your jewellery capsule wardrobe then sits nicely against the whole look.
So that’s really all there is to it. There's no right or wrong here, your capsule collection is individual to you. You can even create your wardrobe around milestones, particularly when you are gifted jewellery for special occasions- this just builds even more meaning into your collection.
However you do it, investing in a jewellery capsule wardrobe is really worthwhile, if like me, you absolutely love jewellery. And you'll treasure those pieces for years to come.
This month I’ve got a quick and handy checklist to make sure you’re party-ready.
It’s that most wonderful time of the year when you can really glitter up and not look OTT- it’s Christmas after all! So add that statement necklace or oversized earrings- I promise it will look fab.
You do this by going for one statement piece. Adding both chunky earrings and an oversized necklace and stacking bracelets will look overcrowded and messy.
Pair a statement necklace with some dazzling studs, oversized earrings with an elegant pendant. Why not try layering necklaces?
Yes, you can. Gone are the days of just a silver metal palette. To stop the look becoming fussy, I tend to stick to just two metals- usually silver with either gold or rose gold. I think this really adds interest to your whole look.
If you’re not sure which metals work on your skin tone, check out our guide matching every skin tone to it’s ideal metal.
Coco Chanel famously said: “Before leaving the house, a lady should look in the mirror and take one thing off.” So let’s do as Coco would- because who knows about dressing well better than Coco Chanel?

We're doing things a little differently this month and looking at styling your whole look as well as working with accessories.
Your style is an expression of who you are. This is not about fashion or trends, it's simply about your individuality. Bold or feminine, floral or minimalist, your preferred way of dressing is your personal statement to the world.
But with so much fashion and shopping content available to us, it can be overwhelming sometimes to make really individual choices. This month I'm going to help you navigate this journey and leave you clearer on your personal style.
This first step is about understanding the silhouettes that flatter you the most.
Rather than comparing yourself to different celebrities or fruits (I’m somewhere in between an apple, a pear and a strawberry), I love this body shape calculator by Who What Wear.
It narrows things down to four key body shapes, looking at where the weight is distributed in your body. It then gives you lots of ideas of what will look great on you and explains why. Give it go- it’s honestly game changing!
Yes, this is very similar to putting together the colour scheme for a room or even your wedding.
You start by picking some key colours- these are usually found in the staple pieces you wear- so trousers, jeans, skirts, jackets and they are often colours like black, navy, grey, khaki or white.
Then add in some accent colours. These are the ones that add personality and make your look pop. Make sure you think about what works on your skin tone. If you’re unsure about this, it can be helpful to either take photos of yourself and see what works or ask friends and family what they think.
Quite simply, having a personal colour palette will mean that you always look put together and your looks are coherent and stylish every time. It certainly makes shopping so much easier.
Gather together lots of looks you love either on Pinterest or by using the save function on Instagram. Or for some real old school fun, cut up some recent magazines and stick them on a large sheet of card. Pretty soon you’ll start to see some trends- colours, shapes, key pieces. This is you gravitating towards what you love and it will act as a map of what you’re aiming for.
Now that you’ve done a lot of the thinking and planning it’s time to declutter your wardrobe. Get rid of anything that doesn’t fit you right now, and of course that doesn’t fit with the planning work you’ve done.
These are the items you’ll wear 75% of the time.
For me, that’s things like dark jeans, semi-smart jumpers, shirts and blouses, jackets and coats. Because I work from home but I’m also a mum who does the school run twice a day I don’t need any super smart office wear. When I go to meetings, I usually pair my smartest jeans with a jacket or shirt.
Determine what works for your lifestyle and invest accordingly. Then have some fun with a few seasonal pieces like slogan tees, Breton stripes, trainers, polka dots and bold colours.
This isn’t about copying a celebrity look. Style icons are there for inspiration and a little guidance when you’re unsure. Bloggers, friends, that lady in your office, a school mum, even your mum or your sister can be a fantastic source of style inspiration.
As I always say, have fun with this. Take your time learning about your body shape, colours that suit you, shops whose tailoring sit well on you. And if you really make it your own, you’ll have found your personal style.
]]>This is one of the biggest jewellery trends this summer, and if you’ve spent any time at all on Instagram you’ll have seen this on fashion bloggers and influencers everywhere.
The key is to wear different lengths- from super short, to mid length and long. Add a metal choker to your favourite pendant necklace to freshen up your look. Or try adding a longer chain to a mid length necklace with pendant for a really interesting look.
Stick to one metal tone and you can’t go wrong. Gold is super on-trend right now. (And if you’re worried about whether gold suits your skin tone, check out our guide to metals and skin tones).
Another really popular combination at the moment is adding one piece of rose gold jewellery to a silver jewellery look. I love this idea as it adds a tiny hint of sparkle and interest to your look.
Use items you’ve already got and you can easily achieve this summer look. And then layer it over jumpers and tops come autumn.
This is a trend that has been around for a while, but I still think it looks as fresh as ever, particularly against summer florals or bright colours. It’s a great expression of identity too- no one else’s bracelet stack will ever look like yours!
Intermingle metals, materials and colours for a really bohemian look: beads, cuffs and bangles are really fun. Start with a base piece such as a cuff or two or three matching bangles, then add in some simpler pieces like a beaded or metal bracelet. Adding in texture and variety really makes the look pop.
Or for a more minimal look, go with more delicate jewellery. I love stacking my gold RockPaperRoses Sentiment Bracelet with a beaded bracelet I was given for my birthday. The feature piece of my stack is the latest addition to the RockPaperRoses collection. The little charm on our new H O P E bracelets stands out because it’s a different shape to the rest of the stack.
And that’s key to stacking bracelets and layering necklaces- combine different shapes and styles and it will always look interesting.
Wasn't Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding just glorious? And what a feast for the eyes, with so many gorgeous outfits on show.
We're taking a closer look at jewellery trends here, and giving you our pick of the best looks.
It's interesting to note that Meghan went for a gold engagement ring and wedding band, very much telling us that the trend towards gold jewellery is going no where!
The engagement ring contains two jewels from the late Princess Diana's very own jewellery collection, set next to a diamond from Botswana, a country that the couple spent time in while they were dating.
If you follow us on social media, you'll have seen that Meghan went for a classic stud earring, designed by Cartier. It's not too dissimilar to our very own sterling silver, platinum plated Moon Drop Studs.
In addition to the gorgeous studs, she wore this beautiful bracelet, also by Cartier.
Her tiara was a gift from the Queen's own collection, the Queen Mary's Diamond Bandeau tiara which dates back to 1893 and was a gift to the Queen's grandmother.
In keeping with this season’s key jewellery trend, the statement earring, we saw the majority of the best dressed at the Royal Wedding let their ears do the talking!
First up we love anything that Meghan’s former Suits co-star Gina Torres wears, and she didn’t disappoint in this gorgeous Castelleros dress. But it was the beautiful ear climber that was the focal for us:
The Duchess of Cambrige looked gorgeous in a Philip Treacy Hat, Alexander McQueen dress and Jimmy Choo shoes. She pared the outfit with drop earrings featuring large pear and oval shaped lemon quartz stones surrounded by diamonds, retailing at over £4000.
America's very own Queen, Oprah Winfrey went for diamond drop earrings to go with her blush Stella McCartney outfit.
Not everyone chose to make their earrings the focal of their accessories. Serena Williams wore a beautiful Bulgari necklace to the ceremony.
And wowed us in this stunning Valentino outfit at the reception:
And we've saved one of the best for last, close friend to Meghan and actress Priyanka Chopra. Just look at those 18kt gold and diamond lightning bolt earrings she wore to the ceremony.
But it was her evening look that we LOVE. Just look at those earrings:
We have updated our Privacy Policy.
]]>A basic structure to your jewellery look, is to put on your 'second-skin jewellery', and then add one statement piece of jewellery that is the focal point of your look.
So first up, is your second skin jewellery. These are the pieces you find yourself reaching for everyday without fail- you wear them so often they become like a second skin to you.
This might include a necklace that was a milestone birthday gift; your wedding and engagement rings or a friendship ring. A classic watch might certainly feature. Wearable tech is an accessory feature for many people these days, so a fitness tracker might be one of your go-to items. Wear these items everyday- they tell a story about who you are.
Once you’ve adorned your treasured everyday pieces, you can then add in your statement jewellery.
Now statement doesn’t always mean chunky and loud- statement jewellery can be small but elegant. So we're talking about that one piece that adds a bit of interest to your outfit, and brings your whole look together. Less is always more with statement accessories, so we tend to stick to one item. Coco Chanel famously said: “Before leaving the house, a lady should stop, look in the mirror, and remove one piece of jewellery.” Wise words indeed! Make sure each piece you're wearing adds value to your look.
Remember that a statement piece will draw the eye to wherever it’s placed. So if you’re in between manicures, you might not want an oversized ring to be your statement piece of the day!
And yes, you can add a statement piece to your work wear look. Done right, it can add a touch of elegance to an otherwise pared back look.
If you work in quite a smart environment, then add some gorgeous studs for an expensive look to your shirt or blouse; or an interesting pendant to peek through your collar. Opt for fine metals like platinum or rhodium plating- these give an exquisite shine. Earrings or necklaces with a Swarovski elements are great to give that hint of polish.
Avoid anything too fussy like tassel earrings or lots of coloured Indian bangles for work. Your work wear jewellery needs to be simple and not too distracting. A few elegant bracelets will look stunning sitting on your wrist and peeking out of a sleeve.
Most of us tend to work in smart-casual work environments these days, but you can still follow these guidelines for this setting- it’s all about little touches of sparkle that add polish and suggest elegance.
For your more relaxed days, the two-step rule- a statement piece with your second-skin jewellery still applies. Whatever your fashion style, adding some stacking bracelets, a simple choker or a pretty pendant necklace to your second-skin jewellery can look interesting and add effortless style on days when you just want to throw on some jeans and a fluffy jumper.
Always look to your own sense of fashion and style for your accessorising cues. If you love a scarf, add some earrings- they frame the face. Warm toned metals like yellow and rose gold work beautifully if you love floral prints and floaty styles, as do simple beads.
And don't be afraid to mix metals! Back in the 90's, there was a kind of unspoken rule that you never mixed gold with silver, and hence silver grew in popularity massively as the most versatile metal to wear. But with the onset of boho style and more relaxed jewellery dressing, it's become perfectly acceptable to wear silver earrings with a gold watch, for example. Aim to group together metal tones and you'll avoid your look becoming too confused.
An obvious way to make a statement with your jewellery is to go bold and chunky! The weekends and evenings are a great time to experiment with slightly bolder pieces. Sticking to one, chunky focal piece will never fail you. Check out our 7 Rules to Wearing Statement Jewellery for more ideas.
The key thing with styling your jewellery is to try. If you’re blinging-up too much, you’ll know, so trust your own instincts and just give it a go. Add one or two interest pieces to your second skin jewellery, and you’ve got the basis of a great jewellery look.
