How to Choose Earrings to Suit Your Face Shape

How to Choose Earrings for Your Face Shape

Earrings have been one of jewellery’s biggest trends for many years now, largely due to selfie culture. But with so many different styles to pick from- hoops, statement earrings, huggie earrings, long drop earrings and ear climbers to name a few, how do you choose earrings to match your face shape?

Our handy guide breaks down all the different face shapes and matches each one to the perfect earring style.

Most people fall into one of these face shapes- though rarely ever the exact shape, you can identify some key characteristics. The trick when choosing earrings is to wear shapes that are the opposite to your main facial features.

How to choose earrings to suit your face shape

Choose earrings that are the opposite shape to your main facial characteristics

Round face

If the length and width of your face are broadly the same and your hairline and jawline are subtly rounded then you have a round face.

Long drop earrings will work best for you as they create the illusion of length and offset the width of the face.

Square or rectangle face

If you have a strong jawline and a hairline that goes straight across your forehead then you’re probably a square or rectangle face shape. A simple hoop earring style can work really well to soften the angles of your face.

We have several styles of hoop earrings in our collection, so it’s really down to personal choice and what occasion you’re dressing for.

Oval face

If your face is longer than it is wide (with the cheeks as the widest part), then you have an oval face. Most styles will suit you well, but to balance out the length of your face, try opting for a shape such as our Jenna Wavy Hoops or the Sienna Rectangular Earrings, both of which will elongate your face. Or try one of our ear climber earrings- these draw the eye upwards and accentuate your cheekbones.

Heart/inverted triangle

Think Reese Witherspoon for this face shape- she’s a classic heart shape. This is when your forehead is wider than your jawline and your face tapers down to a narrow point giving you are a heart or inverted triangle shape.

Zara Teardrop Earrings

Here you want to draw attention to the middle portion of your face to offset the longer chin. A statement earring such as our Zara Teardrops will work well here as could a style that has a charm on it such as the Carrie Hoop Set

All our earrings are suitable for sensitive skin, made from lead, nickel and cadmium free metals
