how to choose the right necklace length

How to choose the right necklace length

There's so much choice with necklaces these days from  a fine gold chain worn neatly at the base of the neck to midlength options that are perfect for layering.  We’ve put together a handy necklace guide will help you to pick the right necklace for different necklines, outfits and heights.

14” Collar

Get ready to make a statement! A 14” necklace is a tightly worn choker which fits around the neck. This type looks great with an open shirt or an off-the- shoulder number.

16” Choker (40cm)

You might find this option slightly more versatile. Not the sizing you’d normally associate with a choker because it actually sits at the base of the neck and can be worn with most necklines. It’s the perfect base for any layered necklace look.

18” Standard or Princess (45-50cm)

This is the classic necklace length normally paired with a pendent. It rests on the collarbone and is suited to almost any neckline. If you’re looking for a day to day necklace length, this would be your go-to option.

24” Opera (60cm)

If you’re looking for a necklace to pull a simple outfit together, try the 24” necklace length which falls on or below the bust. If you’re on the tall side or have a heavier bust, this length will have the same effect as the Princess necklace. If you’re of an average height or build, this length is the longest component of your long layered necklace look.

30”- 34” Rope (76-80cm)

This length falls well below the bust. It is best worn with a long hanging pendant over formal dress such as a long-line black evening dress. This can also look super chic styled over a double-breasted blazer. If you’re 5ft 2” or under, be careful with this one as it can drown you.
